Keeping the American Dream Alive

In 1931, James Truslow Adams—a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and historian, and the son of a Venezuelan immigrant—coined an iconic idea: “The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” Nearly a century later, the American Dream endures and it has taken hold in nations around the world, but there are signs it is at risk. This session will explore what the American Dream means, what challenges it faces today, and what can be done to ensure that it lives on and inspires future generations.
