One of the first people Mike visited after his prostate cancer diagnosis in 1993 was Andrew von Eschenbach, an MD Anderson urologist who would soon appointed director of the National Cancer Institute and then commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. At the 2023 Global Conference, the two friends discussed how cures for cancer and all serious disease have been accelerated over the past three decades.
