Mike joined California Governor Gray Davis in August for the signing of Senate Bill 37, which required that health insurance companies and Medi-Cal pay for routine treatment costs incurred by cancer patients in clinical trials. The legislation, supported by the Prostate Cancer Foundation, encouraged patients to participate in such trials. The legislation meant that California had the strongest such law in the nation.
