Mike was one of 80 invited guests to a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Roundtable in Washington, D.C., in January that developed specific recommendations to accelerate progress against cancer. As chairman of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world's largest philanthropic source of funding for prostate cancer research, Mike proposed a 10-Point Plan to quicken the pace of medical research in 1995, and in 2003, formed FasterCures to shorten the time it takes to develop cures and better treatments for the most deadly and debilitating diseases.
