Mike opened a 2003 Home Run Challenge at Fenway Park by throwing out the first pitch before a Cardinals-Boston Red Sox game. The Home Run Challenge has raised millions of dollars since 1996 to support medical research that seeks better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer. With support from Major League teams, players, managers and their coaching staffs, and umpires, fans nationwide pledge from $1 to more than $5,000 for each home run hit in 60 selected games, played each year during the weeks before Father's Day.
