The Milken Institute is a publicly supported, nonpartisan economic think tank whose aim is to improve lives worldwide by helping create a more democratic and efficient global economy.
The Institute's scholars use capital-market principles and financial innovations to address social and economic challenges, from energy independence to poverty, here in the United States and around the world.
The Institute has pioneered studies in the areas of access to capital, health-care economics, global financial structures, financial innovations, human capital, regional economics and increased efficiency of medical research. It also sponsors a variety of events throughout the year, including the annual Global Conference, a prominent gathering of the world's capital-market leaders, focused on solving our most pressing economic and social challenges; and the annual State of the State Conference, which examines major issues facing the state of California.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Milken Institute Chairman Mike Milken discussed a wide range of topics relating to California's infrastructure - its roads, bridges, schools and development of environmental-friendly technologies - and how the lack of investment in the state compares to that of developing nations in Asia and the Middle East. The Governor called for expanding public-private partnerships to cut through regulatory and legislative bureaucracies, and both he and Mike urged more Americans to travel overseas to get a first-hand view of other countries.
